Here intense dark berries, bittersweet chocolate and pencil shavings abound, while palate weight, depth of presence and a lasting finish enhance the experience of drinking a red wine of substance and pedigree.
The wine is soft with mild acids allowing fresh tropical flavours to come to the fore. Hints of green and ripe figs are present and the finish is crisp with a lasting clean minerality.
Rocky, gravelly mountain soils rich in limestone with a significant amount of clay to assist in the water-retention capacity helps the vines to develop fruit with strong citrus flavors and and a characteristic nuttiness on the mid-palate and finish.
An abundance of free limestone is complemented by a heavy clay component ensuring excellent water-retention, adding structure& fullness to this delicate wine.
These soils have high free time content on De Wetshof. This adds complexity and structure
